How To Build A Dream Laundry Room

Construction & Contractors Blog

When it comes to building custom homes, you need to think carefully about how you design each room in your new home, even the laundry room. Building a custom home means you get to leave your own special touch in each room.

Think About What You Need

First, you need to figure out what you need from your laundry room. Do you need a place to store your dirty clothes? Do you want bins so you can sort your clothing into things like darks, lights, and delicates within your laundry room? Do you have clothing you like to air dry? If so, you will need a space for air drying that clothing. Do you like to fold the clothing in your laundry room? If so, you will need a folding table.

Sit down and create a list of the things that you want to do in your laundry room. Write down your favorite features and your least favorite features about the laundry rooms you have had in the past. Use this to create a master list of what features you really want your laundry room to have.

Think About How to Mix Function & Style Together

As you start to design your laundry room, make sure you are mixing together both function and style. Create a design that will allow you to get all the features you want in a way that is visually pleasing and works from a construction stand-point.

For example, as far as plumbing, it makes sense to put the washing machine next to your laundry room sink. It makes sense to add a countertop for folding along with storage for your sorting bins. Try to create a layout that flows and has all the functionality you need, while still looking good. The layout should allow you to get your laundry done as smoothly as possible.

Add Lots of Storage

The one thing most homeowners wish they would have included more of is storage. Your laundry room is a great place to include more storage. To start with, you should use your laundry room to store cleaning supplies and household goods such as toilet paper, tissues, and other items. You can add more storage for other items as well. More storage is always a good thing.

When it comes to designing your laundry room, think about how you use a laundry room and what features you need in your laundry room. Then, create a layout that is both functional and stylish, and be sure to add lots of storage. Don't be afraid of adding a little style either; have some fun with the flooring, countertops, or room color of your laundry room.
