When To Call For A Repair Or Replacement Of Your Garage Door

Blog

The automatic garage door system on your home can last for years without needing much help. The door itself can last for up to 30 years if it doesn't sustain any cosmetic damage. The opener will usually last about 15 years, so you will need a new garage door opener installed long before you need a new door. If you have problems with the way your garage door opens, or you can see that the door doesn't stay all the way open, you may need garage door repair. Once your system continues to need repairs, it's probably time to get a new garage door installed for your home.

If Your Door Struggles to Open

You might have problems with your garage door opener, the tracks, or the tension springs if you notice the door is having a hard time opening. If the motor is straining, it may not have enough power. If the tension springs are loose, they won't help hold the heavy door as it opens. Once the opener is starting to fail, you will need to have a new one. You might have a combination problem with loose tension springs and a failing opener at the same time.

When Your System Frequently Breaks

If your garage door needs to be repaired all the time, you might need a new garage door installed. When your door gets damaged, or you are tired of the look of your garage door, it's time for a new one. Your door is going to break down over time, as the wear and tear on the parts is eventually going to cause the door system to fail. Once you need to call for repairs all the time, it is more cost-effective to get your system replaced.

Bent Tracks and Missing Brackets

If a bracket falls off, your door will have a hard time opening and closing. Your track can also become bent if it gets bumped into. The two tracks have to be perfectly symmetrical, or your door will have issues opening and closing. You may need to have your tracks replaced, and any missing brackets put back to secure your track to the garage.

If you notice your garage door won't stay open all the way, it's important to call for a repair. Tension springs are dangerous, and you should not adjust them on your own. Pay attention to malfunctions in your system, and get your system replaced when necessary.
